Ashby Camera Club Competitions

The Club’s competition schedule runs throughout the winter season, offering members the chance to pit their photographic wits against other members, as well as seeing their work competing in external competition against a number of other local clubs.

The club is a member of the MCPF (the Midlands Counties Photographic Federation) which gives us access to a range of top class judges and speakers as well as providing links with other local clubs.

Members are encouraged to enter either prints or digital images, and gain valuable constructive feedback from the judge on the night.

The judging process is informal and positive, with each judge offering his or her own insights into the technical and artistic merit of each image, and making suggestions for improvements, before awarding a mark out of 20 for each. No-one need feel intimidated by the process and members often comment on the value of the comments aimed at helping them improve in future.

ACC’s competition schedule includes both internal and external competitions – 11 in all throughout the season.

The internal competitions are held at the club’s home venue, Smisby Village Hall:

  • Two themed competitions, where members are asked to enter work to a pre-determined theme. Themes are decided 12 months in advance to give members a chance to produce appropriate images.
  • Two open competitions for members to enter their best images on any subject.
  • The annual Jeff Jarvis competition.
  • The annual competitions for either digital or printed images of subjects taken at club events during the previous year (to encourage members to attend!)

External competitions are arranged against neighbouring clubs from Melbourne, Coalville, Shepshed, Burton upon Trent and Earl Shilton. These are either “home” or “away” matches and may be tripartite events with Ashby competing against two other clubs on the night.
